In this context, <strong data-start=\"355\" data-end=\"441\">Spain has become the first EU country to launch an Artificial Intelligence Sandbox<\/strong>, a pioneering testing environment designed to help companies adapt to the upcoming European AI Regulation (AI Act).<br data-start=\"557\" data-end=\"560\" \/><strong data-start=\"560\" data-end=\"629\"><a href=\"https:\/\/veridas.com\/\">Veridas<\/a> has been selected as one of the highest-scoring companies<\/strong> to participate in this initiative.<\/p>\n<h2>What happened?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"685\" data-end=\"1010\">The Ministry for Digital Transformation has published the <strong data-start=\"743\" data-end=\"763\">final resolution<\/strong> of the first EU AI Sandbox call.<br data-start=\"796\" data-end=\"799\" \/>This initiative aims to <strong data-start=\"823\" data-end=\"862\">test and adapt high-risk AI systems<\/strong> in a controlled, secure, and collaborative environment, in line with the new European regulatory framework that will come fully into force in 2026.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1012\" data-end=\"1130\">Among the selected projects, <strong data-start=\"1041\" data-end=\"1092\">Veridas ranked second nationwide (78.85 points)<\/strong> and first in the biometrics category.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>What is the AI Sandbox?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1160\" data-end=\"1280\">The AI Sandbox is a <strong data-start=\"1180\" data-end=\"1237\">regulated, supervised, and secure testing environment<\/strong> that allows companies and institutions to:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1282\" data-end=\"1551\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1282\" data-end=\"1362\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1284\" data-end=\"1362\">Adapt their high-risk AI systems to the requirements of the upcoming AI Act.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1282\" data-end=\"1362\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1284\" data-end=\"1362\">Receive expert guidance and training on legal, technical, and compliance matters.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1449\" data-end=\"1551\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1451\" data-end=\"1551\">Contribute to developing official technical guidelines to support the European AI ecosystem.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1553\" data-end=\"1714\">In this first edition, <strong data-start=\"1576\" data-end=\"1604\">12 high-risk AI projects<\/strong> were selected across sectors such as healthcare, employment, credit, critical infrastructure, and biometrics.<\/p>\n<h2>Why does it matter?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1740\" data-end=\"1892\">For Veridas, participating in this Sandbox clearly reflects our commitment to <strong data-start=\"1818\" data-end=\"1891\">responsible, transparent AI that meets the highest European standards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1894\" data-end=\"2213\">The selected system\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/veridas.com\/age-verification\/\"><strong data-start=\"1914\" data-end=\"1940\">Veridas Age Estimation<\/strong><\/a>\u2014enables age verification in vending machines to regulate access to restricted products such as tobacco or vape devices.<br data-start=\"2060\" data-end=\"2063\" \/>This is a <strong data-start=\"2073\" data-end=\"2094\">specific use case<\/strong>, operating within a regulated context, which the Ministry identified as one of the most relevant projects in the call.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2215\" data-end=\"2466\">Participation in the Sandbox was <strong data-start=\"2248\" data-end=\"2333\">exclusively reserved for systems considered high-risk under the new AI Regulation<\/strong>. For this reason, Veridas submitted this particular use case\u2014age verification for access to regulated products via vending machines.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2468\" data-end=\"2701\">This system was evaluated as high-risk due to its nature and regulatory context. However, <strong data-start=\"2558\" data-end=\"2683\">all of Veridas\u2019 biometric recognition solutions (identification and authentication) are classified as low or minimal risk<\/strong> under the AI Act.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>What does it mean for Veridas?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2738\" data-end=\"2821\">Participation in the AI Sandbox marks a strategic milestone with multiple benefits:<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"2823\" data-end=\"3214\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2823\" data-end=\"2910\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2825\" data-end=\"2910\"><strong data-start=\"2828\" data-end=\"2852\">Official recognition<\/strong> as one of the most relevant AI projects in the country.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2911\" data-end=\"3000\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2913\" data-end=\"3000\">An active role in shaping <strong data-start=\"2942\" data-end=\"2975\">technical and legal standards<\/strong> at the European level.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3001\" data-end=\"3106\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3003\" data-end=\"3106\">Access to expert <strong data-start=\"3023\" data-end=\"3047\">training and support<\/strong> from the Government of Spain and the European AI Office.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3107\" data-end=\"3214\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3109\" data-end=\"3214\">Validation of a solution developed according to principles of <strong data-start=\"3174\" data-end=\"3213\">privacy, explainability, and ethics<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Artificial Intelligence is entering a new era in Europe\u2014one defined by regulation, responsibility, and trust.
